DescriptionXTaran's metapackage to prevent the installation of NetworkManager This metapackage ensures that NetworkManager is not installed on your computer. NetworkManager is GNOME’s bloaty and often misbehaving way to take over the control over a computers network card. If you have a machine with a permanent wired network connection, you want to avoid that NetworkManager decides to disconnect your computer from the network, e.g. during (security-) upgrades of the network-manager package. Or because you have chosen to like the wrong version of arping. Even with wireless networks, it is often easier to just configure /etc/network/interfaces properly. Avoid NM if you have any kind of networking trouble and/or a setup that is more complex than “just either one wired *or* one wireless (road-warrior) uplink and no other connections”.
