| Description | initialise Linux RNG early Binaries and initramfs integration to initialise the Linux RNG early: * on x86, Jytter is used extremely early for gathering some random bits * after having mounted the root filesystem, a seed file will be read, spread out into the kernel and back into the file, and then, only when that was successful, accredited as entropy * the seed is created in postinst and updated by a cronjob, daily * it is also updated on system shutdown This is operated automatically and does not require any manual steps. . Note: this relies on the root filesystem being checked by initramfs and makes it writable early. |
